A Soldiers Tale
Scared and alarmed
Battling it out through all sorts of cruelty
Oh so loud and bright as though in a storm
Away we go for rest, peace and quite
Uncoordinated troops
Giving it everything they have
Blinded by light deaf with the bangs
Louder the closer we got to shelter
The shots were reaching us faster and faster
Come on boys were are getting wrapped in gas-RUN
Fumbling around reaching for masks
Thinking we are not going to make it
I hear a faint sob of exhaustion
Gasping for breath in this thick green soup
I feel as though I am drowning and being wrapped in horror
I’m helpless-what can I do?

He is fading away
The gas has got him
Choking I feel terrible
Exhaustion is getting to me
We get him into the wagon
Watching him slowly fade away as though someone has stolen his life
If you could have seen him at this moment right now
As the blood was pouring out of him
I was thinking why was this happening to him?
Imagine trying to get through this as death is on the doorstep.
The price they paid cost so much
My enthusiasm had gone down the drain
But all for our country
So desperate we were
What a life!
